McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes were introduced over 60 years ago and the brand is now the 3rd biggest in the biscuit market, holding a record share of the everyday treats segment at 12.4%. Over 3 million Jaffa Cakes are made a day at our Manchester factory, each taking 18 minutes to make.
The original recipe is a closely guarded secret, but the delicious combination of light sponge, plain chocolate and the smashing orangey bit in the middle, has made McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes infinitely scoffable!
Back in 1991 we fought a battle with the VAT man to prove that Jaffa Cakes were cakes and not biscuits, and therefore should not attract VAT. In 1994 McVitie’s launched Mini Jaffa Cakes and Jaffa Cake Bars, to appeal to the growing lunchbox market. 2008 has seen the launch of the ‘now even more orangey’ Jaffa, where the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes team has given the zingy orangey centre an even zestier orange tang. Supported with a £1.2m spend on a TV, consumers will be reminded of the unbelievably delicious Jaffa Cakes still with only 1g of fat which are now even more orangey!
